Opposition groups frame the Gay Rights Movement in several ways. Traditionally, the Christian right has portrayed the act of homosexuality as sinful. Others, outside of the religious scope, portrayed the act as a less-than-moral choice of lifestyle, which victimized the straight parents and families of gay people. Yet and still, fear-mongering from any anti-movement group or organization has continued to show homosexuality as a burden on straight society, an unequal choice, and a negative influence on Americas youth - that may or may not target youth to become, try, or otherwise engage in homosexual activity. In one of the videos below, the framing is done in a way that attempts to show how straight and moral families and Americans are victimized by the possibility of gay marriage.
Positive Framing
The most positive framing comes obviously from within the LGBT community. A hurdle to overcome has been the categorizing of homosexuality as something that is not a choice, meaning that people are they way they are, and being born gay does not mean that there is anything physically, emotionally, mentally, spiritually, or morally wrong with that person. Scientific information has been surfacing for years supporting this view and has been seized by the Gay Rights Movement as a cornerstone argument point. Seen represented in pop-diva 'Lady GaGa's' most recent song "Born This Way", the movement seeks to change the minds of the opposition to stop thinking homosexuality a choice. The movement also frames it's existence and actions as benign, individual, passionate, and equal to heterosexual action, arguing that if the only difference between a straight person and a gay person is whom they choose to love, then there really is no difference at all.
