Pop Culture Leads The Way..

When it comes to LGBT activists, there's a long line of celebrities to get behind. Not to say that everyday average Joe or Jane Gay-American can't represent themselves, but the Gay Rights Movement as a Social Movement has really been hijacked (for the movement's benefit) by popular culture. An assortment of celebrities from Lady Gaga to Rosie O'Donnell have all been leaders and activists for the movement - GaGa most recently for Don't Ask Don't Tell push, and O'Donnell largely for Gay Adoption.
Not all celebrities have to be gay or bisexual to be vocal and supportive, however. Cyndi Lauper is a long-time advocate of straight citizens supporting gay rights. Republican Senator John McCain's daughter Meghan and wife Cindy also have been vocal about supporting gay marriage through the NoH8 campaign.
